"The Ultimate Panfish League provides something for both the competitive angler and recreational angler." -- Matt Johnson

The Ultimate Panfish League runs year-round. It's a year long league that's packed full of both ice fishing events and open water events. They are team events, where each team consists of 2 anglers. You can choose to sign-up for the entire league up front or join individual events. No "year-round" standings and no obligations, this is an event-by-event league.

"...A league that consists of Crappies, Sunfish and Perch... The Ultimate Panfish League!!!"

***ALL RULES AND REGULATIONS OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA MUST BE OBSERVED AT ALL TIMES

- Format

  • Team events (2 anglers per team)
  • Max. of 15 teams per event
  • 4 Ice Fishing Events (December, January, February and March) (Season 1)
  • 6 Open Water Events (May, June, July, August, September and October) (Season 2)
  • Events will be on either a Saturday or Sunday. Dates and lakes will be listed prior to each season (Ice Fishing and Open Water)
  • Pre-fishing is allowed

- Times (6 hour events)

  • Ice Fishing Events: 8am - 2pm (Weigh-in at 2pm)
  • Open Water Events: 7am - 1pm (Weigh-in at 1pm)
  • If you've pre-registered and you're late for take-off (and you let a league official know that you'll be late), then you only lose that time for fishing. But, if you have not pre-registered, then you won't be able to compete in the event if you're late.

- Weigh-in

  • Both team members must be present at weigh-in (unless something comes up and league officials are notified)
  • Any late teams will be penalized (every minute late will result in a 0.1 pound reduction from your total weight. If you're more than 15 minutes late than you're disqualified)
  • Dead-fish penalty will be based on over-all participant observation. If it appears that the fish were caught prior to the event (i.e.: frozen fish from the day before, obvious over-discoloration, etc), than that team will be immediately disqualified with-out reimbursement.

- Limits (15 fish total limit per team) which includes...

  • 5 Crappie (per team)
  • 5 Sunfish (per team)
  • 5 Perch (per team)
  • Size Limits: Crappie = 7 inches, Sunfish = 6 inches, Perch = 6 inches
  • Culling is allowed (However, if you're caught throwing back dead fish your team will be disqualified, no exceptions)
  • You may keep a full limit of crappie, sunfish and perch if you would like to take fish home for a meal or whatnot, that is fine, but MN regulations still apply though and it's still a 15 fish limit (5 per specie)
  • All special regulations regarding size limits for the particular body of water must be followed at all times

- Scoring

  • The scoring system will be based on weight converted to points.
  • Point values- 1 lb of fish = 1 pt (Across the board for all species)
  • Heaviest total weight wins (Crappie, sunfish and perch weighed all together)
  • 1 Bonus Point for having a max. limit of 15 fish (5 crappie, 5 sunfish and 5 perch)
  • Tie breaker: which ever team has the largest crappie (weight) will win the tie breaker, and if that's still a tie then it will go to the largest sunfish, and after that it goes to perch.

- Fishable Waters

  • Any fishable water available by boat is acceptable. No going on land and both anglers must remain in the boat at all times. (Emergencies are exceptions)
  • Ice fishing events may have restrictions based on ice conditions and certain bodies of water. Any restrictions will be noted well in advance. Safety comes first.
  • The use of motor vehicles is acceptable during ice fishing events, but use at your own risk.

- Distance Constraints

  • Teams must respect other teams. No fishing within 30 yards of another team will be allowed unless invited by said team to do so. Non league boats, anglers and fish houses must also be respected at all times.
  • During ice fishing events, team members must remain within 100 feet of each other.

- Pay-outs will depend on how many teams fish each event.

- Pay-outs are on an individual event basis. No over-all season standings pay-out. Points and standings don't carry over to the next event.

- 90% Pay-Out per event (10% goes towards league set-up fees, dues and expenses)

(i.e. : 10 teams = $250 - $25 for league expenses = $225 total pay-out for event. Pay-out % is based on that number)

- Pay-out by placing (% based on the 90% of the total amount recieved at each event in reference to entry fees) (Based on having 10-15 teams)

  • 1st Place = 60% of possible pay-out event entry fees
  • 2nd Place = 30% of possible pay-out event entry fees
  • 3rd Place = 10%

- Pay-out for having less than 10 teams

  • 1st Place = 70%
  • 2nd Place = 30%
  • No 3rd Place pay-out
